Quotes

“I was at a concert in a European country and I was offered cocaine. It made me feel invincible. Like I could conquer the world. I was just completely over-confident, but it’s all a misconception because when you wake up the next day it’s all gone and you feel awful. And the more you take drugs, the more you want. And that’s how you become an addict.”
- Naomi Campbell

“People in this business use cocaine and crack, but I never wanted to put that in my body. Why would I? I tried pot when I was 18 or 19. But it just made me scared to leave the house.”
- Halle Berry

Testimonials

“In my many years of experience working in the field of addiction recovery and education I have witnessed first hand the consequences and destructive nature of drug and alcohol addiction.

Individuals and entire families can be destroyed from the effects of various forms of substance abuse and often times the substance abuser becomes trapped in a lifetime of tragic events that leads to prison, death, or destruction.

Some can be lead back from the abyss through recovery programs and the loving support of friends and family, others never get the chance. The best defense against addiction is to never start down that path, and knowledge and understanding of the consequences of such a lifestyle is by far the best deterrent.

It is for this reason that I heartily endorse the work and programs of Addiction Awareness. They are taking the fight to the front lines of the battle and going to war for the hearts and minds of young kids and doing their part to retard or stop them from making the poor choices that lead to addiction and it’s ramifications.

Their services are provided at no cost to the schools, kids, or their families and that is why community support is vital to their mission. As a member of your local business community you want responsible, clean and sober young people who can grow to lead meaningful and productive lives, not dregs to society whose behavior damages or destroys every thing and everyone around them.

Addiction Awareness is doing their part to educate, inform, and inspire. Please do your part by supporting this very worthwhile program through your small but meaningful financial contribution. You could be the difference in the life of just one young person. Please be willing to be that difference maker with your support.”

“Dear Mr. Klein

I am excited to hear about your endeavor with the Addiction Awareness program and the focus on middle school children and wish to offer my support.  It has been my experience in 24 years of practice in addictions and mental health that prevention of substance abuse through education and awareness is a critical approach to save our children.

Through my practice I have worked with many children, their families, schools, and our legal system in treating the issue of addictions.  Many times my patients have said, ‘if I knew then what I know now, I would not be here’.  This is so true. Through prevention by means of education, teaching coping skills, and providing simple awareness information many people could have made better choices.  It is not to say that this information is not out there to be found.  It is to say this information needs to be taken directly to those who do not know how to ask for it.  Our children should not have to come looking for information after the fact, it is for us to prepare them in advance.

Your mission to provide this service to schools, children, and their families is admirable. The Addiction Awareness program only exemplifies that to combat the issue of substance abuse it requires effort from people like you in the community. I strongly encourage others to join you and offer their support to this endeavor.  It is the responsibility of today’s leaders in industry and in the community to selflessly support Addiction Awareness. This support will only benefit society by empowering the children of today to become healthy, sober, and fruitful adults.”

Sincerely,

Dr. Perry Johnson, Ph.D., CADC
